Biography:- Jérémie Giles was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, on February 13, 1927. His father, George, was the son of a British immigrant and his mother, Henriette Fougere, an
Acadian born in the Magdalen Islands, Quebec. Jérémie is a painter and sculptor who began his artistic career at a very young age. When he was 18, he traveled to southern California, where he painted among other things, two large murals in the town of Holtville, near the city of El Centro. In the mid 1950's, he settled in Baie-Comeau, where he built and managed the magnificent Manicouagan Art Centre. During this period he gave workshops on visual arts, managed a performing art venue, organized painting and sculpture exhibitions and a sculpture symposium.
Jérémie has held over 50 exhibitions of his work and has participated in several group showings since 1950. History and Natural Science are among his other passions. He is the designer and builder of two Earth Science centres. He is also the creator of several armorial designs and public sculptures for municipalities in the province of Quebec. A recent sculpture cast in bronze and measuring 3 meters high, of Samuel de Champlain, was inaugurated in Gatineau, Quebec in 2004, to commemorate the 400th anniversary of the first French settlement in America.
